Refugee Sonder
The orange has been used here as a symbol of the refugee, tied to the orange lifejackets often used crossing treacherous bodies of water.

Persecution, war and violence make living in certain areas of the world dangerous and torturous for certain people, forced to leave their homes they become internally displaced, then forced to leave their country they become refugees. A refugee has fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular social group. Most likely, they cannot return home or are afraid to do so. War and ethnic, tribal and religious violence are leading causes of refugees fleeing their countries."Islas Goldie’s (workshop leader) collection of images in her series ‘Sonder’,~ inspired the invitation for her to facilitate a photography workshop in response to this year’s national refugee theme ‘You, me and those who came before’. In this group we had participants with ages ranging from 11 to late 40s. For some participants; it was their first time to handle a camera. 
As a group we specifically took images of meaningful spaces (especially for refugees and asylum seekers when they arrive in Coventry). We explored what those spaces meant to them and attempted to capture past memories and the present (hence shadows of places and people). Some participants who took part in this photography workshop cannot be named for immigration legal reasons.
